Job Description:

The Counselor Associate will provide student-centered guidance to all FIT students in support of their academic goals. The counselor associate will assist with the development of degree plans, provides curricula information about the schools, majors and minors at FIT and directs students to college resources that provide assistance for academic success and career planning.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide degree mapping guidance to FIT students from enrollment to graduation as experts on degree program requirements, academic minors, degree audit systems, and academic policies.
  • Guide students through the process to navigate their MyFIT accounts with special focus on the degree audit and registration systems. Ensuring that students understand technological systems necessary for academic success.
  • Work Closely with Academic Advisement Counselors (NCF) to build relationships with program coordinators and faculty to comprehensively manage the academic program requirements of students.
  • Will assist students with questions about the College, its services and curriculum and be expert on academic policies and procedures related to advising students.
  • Monitors the academic standing of students, and engages students, faculty, and staff as necessary to provide continuous student-centered support. Complete the required steps to aid students with academic concerns, such as those placed on academic and/or financial aid probation.
  • Steward students through the steps of the academic preparation propress, via ongoing communications, sending reminders for important programs and events, monitoring academic progression, ensuring that students register for the appropriate courses and receive all the assistance they need to be successful at FIT.
  • Ensures the effectiveness of the advising process by maintaining electronic advising notes for all student appointments and using information in MyFIT and the college webpages to advise students appropriately.
  • Manages and updates the Starfish Student Success Platform as is required by the department for optimal job performance and student engagement.
  • Participates in all Academic Advisement Center initiatives; not limited to advisement/registration events and representing the Academic Advisement Center at College wide events, which may occur on weekends and after business hours.
  • Supports professional and team development initiatives of the Academic Advising Center.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Academic Advising Center by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of relevant business experience, including 2 years of experience in academic advisement or a related field in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of academic advisement processes, models, functions, and student information systems.
  • Proficiency in technology, including Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Forms), Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint), electronic reporting tools, and student information systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong commitment to student-centered and student-friendly approach.
  • Ability to deliver effective group counseling sessions.


Additional Information:

Please note all offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of the background check process.

Salary

Salary: $66,313.10 to $71,066.01 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Salary: $66,313.10 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 92, after one year of service and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The working conditions for this position will be primarily in an office. The physical requirement for this position will require constant sitting, constant standing, occasional walking, and occasional lifting 10 lbs. or less.
