Job Description

The position of General Engineering Supervisor in the Underground necessitates a suitably qualified incumbent who will be required to maintain and assist in the operation of Trackless Mobile Equipment and systems according to sound engineering practice and equipment and installation specifications.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • Supervises and assists with coordination of engineering activities safely, efficiently and cost effectively to meet short term production objectives
  • Manages resources to deliver maintenance and operational targets
  • Ensures compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and best practices
  • Contributes to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives for engineering processes
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements
  • Attend to defects raised on pre-start reports, breakdown sheets and over-inspection reports
  • Perform electrical infrastructure and equipment over-inspection on work done by apprentices and operators where appropriate and provide feedback and guidance as required
  • Discuss work backlog and future work requirements with the Supervisor and plan corrective measures to rectify, e.g. re-scheduling, prioritising, labour assistance, etc.
  • Identify spares requirements and order according to operational and departmental procedures
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health & Safety Act regulations, manufacturing and company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Supervisor
  • Implement Risk Management plans according to operational requirements and provide consultation on minimisation of engineering risk
  • Perform technical investigations into equipment failures and accident damages
  • Planning of activities in accordance with production schedules and allocation of resources as required
  • Manage and control the allocation of funds to ensure adherence to approved budgeted expenditure
  • Effective communication to relevant stakeholder to minimize production delays
  • Training and development of subordinates.


Qualifications

  • Minimum N4 certificate - Diesel Mechanic or relevant trade qualification
  • Preferred: Recognised Diploma or Degree in relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years previous supervisory experience in underground Trackless Mobile Equipment environment
  • Code EB/Code 8 Driver's License.
  • Computer Literacy - MS Office Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook)
  • Extensive experience with the maintenance and management of the following equipment is critical:
  • LHDs;
  • Drill rigs;
  • Spraymec/Shotcreter;
  • Agicar;
  • Articulated Dump Truck;
  • Charge-up machine;
  • UV/IT/Flatbed/Manitou
  • Light vehicles
  • Bolters

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Independent, proactive thinking and have the ability to do own job planning including SAP
  • Ensure and maintain sound budget control
  • Planning, coordinating and prioritizing
  • Analysis and interpretation skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime and
