Job Description

The role holder will be responsible for creating a high-performance culture and leading the Plant Engineering & Maintenance team to effectively deliver on the set production and respective business continuity targets through an integrated value chain. The role holds legal accountability with a 2.13.3.1 appointment in terms of the MHSA, responsible for the overall safe operation and maintenance of equipment and structures including availability and reliability of the fixed plant at Venetia Mine.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • Ensure legal, safety, environmental and hygiene standards are complied with and maintained within area of responsibility.
  • Interpret organisational requirements for the section, to compile and develop a risk log with appropriate mitigation solutions that align with short, medium- and long-term Strategic Business Plan objectives.
  • Implement policies and develop procedures to ensure adherence to SHE, Engineering and Operational standards.
  • Allocate and manage the utilisation of financial resources and value add to optimise engineering availability and life cycle management of equipment.
  • Management and co-ordination of team and resources to execute maintenance and operational plans.
  • Stakeholder management: liaison with maintenance, operational & support function personnel to derive and execute fit for purpose engineering solutions according to sound risk management practices.
  • Direct the development, motivation and utilisation of human resources for the section to ensure a competent knowledge base for continued success within area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate the development, management and enhancement of maintenance strategies and plans to ensure optimal uptime and reliability of equipment within area of responsibility. (i.e. Fixed plant: Blue, Pink and Red Areas)
  • Development of appropriate engineering maintenance and project systems to support strategic plans.
  • Management of project and construction activities within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance strategies are operationalised into effective work packages and tactics.
  • Ensure all work is planned, scheduled, executed and monitored and all legal appointment/ statutory requirements are executed.
  • Implement critical Plant and Equipment strategies / tactics and ensure that these deliver to the defined availability, reliability and cost / operated hour within the lifecycle model and production plan.


Qualifications

The successful incumbent must meet the following criteria:
  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent.
  • Government Certificate of Competency (Mines)

REQUIRED SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
  • Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Proven ability in asset management with a demonstrated history of turning around under-performing Plant
  • Proven ability in capital project management
  • Proven ability in minimising operational and business risk management
  • Proven ability in engineering risk identification and hazard mitigation
  • Planning, analysis, coordinating and prioritizing tasks.
  • Relationship building and good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine root causes of breakdown events and implement related remedial actions and systems
  • Project Management.
  • Report writing and presentation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
